Rats
The most common rat species in England is the Brown Rat (rattus norvegicus).
Size: 19-28cm (head & body length), tail approx. 60% of body length.
Weight: 100-500g.
Markings: Grey/Brown or Black fur, slightly lighter undersides.
Location: Anywhere that humans are and more.
Signs: Live sightings, scuffling noises, droppings, dropped nesting materials, smell, gnawed items. |

House Mouse (Mus domesticus)
Size: 7-9cm (head & body length), tail approx. 80% of body length.
Weight: 10-25g.
Markings: Grey/Brown fur, slightly lighter undersides.
Location: Anywhere that humans are and more.
Signs: Live sightings, scuffling noises, droppings, dropped nesting materials, smell, gnawed items. |

Wasps (common - Vespula vulgaris, Vespula germanica)
Size: 10-20mm (head to addomen tip)
Wingspan: 25-40mm
Markings: Adult wasps have characteristic yellow & black bands on abdomen, with a distinct waist between thorax & abdomen.
Location: Nests found in trees, loft spaces, cavities & voids. Adult wasps found near food, sweet drinks, bins, skips etc.
Signs: Visual sightings & stings. |

Cockroaches
The most common type of Cockroach in the UK is the German Cockroach (Blattella germanica).
Size: 11-16mm (overall body length)
Markings: Light Beige with two dark stripes on the pronotum behind the head.
Location: Usually close to food & water.
Signs: Visual sightings of adults & nymphs, odour, faecal spotting, egg cases. |

Fleas
Size: 11-16mm (overall body length)
Markings: Adult fleas are dark mahogany in colour, larval stages are white/straw coloured, small & hairy.
Location: Carpeting, bedding, under furniture, anywhere pets frequent, roof spaces (birds nests).
Signs: Visual sightings of adults, bites - most often on the lower leg. |

Grey Squirrels
Size: approx 25cm (head & body length), tail approx. 90% of body length.
Weight: approx 500g.
Markings: Grey with a whiter belly, grey turns browner in summer.
Location: Widespread throughout Britain.
Signs: Live sightings, droppings, bark stripping, kibbled cones/nuts, scattered food remains, footprints in soft mud or snow. |

Bed Bugs
Size: 4-7mm (overall body length)
Markings: Light beige, but dark mahogany once fed.
Location: Furniture, beds, headboards etc.
Signs: Visual sightings of adults, bites - most often on the neck & waist. |
